A learner driving license is one of the prerequisites to get the actual driving license in Bangladesh. You must first apply for a Learner or Apprentice Driving License along with the required documentation. You will have to apply to the Circle Office under the permanent address or current address (with the required proof) in the Circle under the BRTA. The Circle Office Authority will grant a beginner or learner driving license with which the applicant can receive driving training. After receiving training for 2 months, you will have to take written, oral and field tests in your near center at the given date and time. During this time, the candidate should bring his Learner or Apprentice Driving License (original copy) and a pen to take the written exam. The minimum age for a professional driving license is 20 years and for amateurs a minimum of 3 years.
Step 1: Arrange Required Documents
Documents required for a learner or apprentice driving license:
- Downloaded application form from the BRTA website. The form needs to fillup properly and submit the application form.
- Medical certificate by a registered doctor which is included with the Application form.
- Verified photocopy of National ID card / Birth certificate / Passport.
- Receipt of deposit fee, deposit receipt with BRTA Bank (Bank’s list can be found at www.brta.gov.bd). Fee for application on one category is 345.00 BDT and if you apply for both categories then you have to deposit 518.00 BDT
- Newly taken 3 copies of stamps and 3 copies of passport size photo.
Categories are:
- Motorcycle
- Motorcar
- Motor Rickshaw
- Light Motorized Vehicles (Cars)
- Medium Motorized Vehicles(SUVs)
- Heavy Motorized Vehicles (Trucks)
Step 2: Written, Oral and Field Test Examination
After passing the Written, Oral and Field Test Examination, the applicant will have to apply for the Smart Card Driving License at the concerned Circle Office by providing the required documents and fees in a prescribed form. Smart cards are issued by the customer for accepting biometrics (digital pictures, digital signatures, and fingerprints). When printing of Smart Card Driving License is completed, the customer is informed to receive it via SMS.
Documents required for Smartcard Driving License:
- Application form filled with proper information.
- Medical certificate by a registered doctor.
- Verified photocopy of National ID card / Birth certificate / Passport.
- Fixed Fee (Professional – 1679 / – Taka & Amateur – 2542 / – Taka) Deposit receipt in BRTA designated bank.
- Police Investigation Report for Professional Driving License.
- Newly taken 3 copies of passport size pictures.
